PostSubject: consultation for improved facilities at penton hook   Tue Mar 01, 2011 6:42 pm

A TAC rep met with george gerring fom the EA, and the contractors Land and Water today.
On the menu was penton hook, the weir permit area.
A disabled fishing platform installation was agreed upon. For the able bodied, 2 double platforms, a single one and improvements to one swim, were agreed upon.
The folks involved welcomed our clubs involvement, and we are now in the throes of arranging for a work party to visit the area and weave some TAC magic.

happy days folks

Big step forward this chaps.

The first time Lower Thames anglers have had real direct input into our fishing facilities for decades and decades.

Also ongoing is TAC input along the Lower to disabled platforms, weir permits and bailiffing.

Good work lads.

Thanks mate - Jim attended the site meeting on this occasion though.

There's so much work behind the scenes the likes of Dave and Jim do it would leave you gobsmacked. Everything's a battle and nothing's easy but progress is being made.

its a team effort folks, a big up to all the team, every single member of the TAC

a few more details to add would be
the material to be used for the platforms will be of a plastic variety, and in an unobtrusive colour
the height above water ideally 7 inches, but you gotta allow for river levels

the intention is to blend these facilities into the environment, and make sure they're sited where you can get a bite

Sounds good, any movement on fishing into darkness?

also who is choosing which swims the platforms go in etc?

nothing was discussed about fishing into darkness buddy, but after chatting to a local who was fishing, it seems it does see a few anglers

the siting of the disabled swim is where the 2 kids jumped in to save their dog
the other ones are where existing wooden steps lead down to the water, platforms are to be affixed above the water, on poles driven into the ground

all of'em are in good spots

At the risk of highlighting the obvious, hope it's got a nice rough surface that won't get all algae-fied and slippery after a while and also drains properly for when it gets icy.

Think its going to be the plastic grid/mesh stuff in the original piccy ,On most of the lock waiting areas now and far better than wood/ metal checker plate type thing Steve

Fishing times are part of a separate review.

George the Thames catchment officer wants to get a website question form up so we can individually give our feedback on the weir ticket. They'll be focusing on safety and access....though times will be part of the review.

No promise times will change...just that they'll listen to feedback and be reviewed.

Steve A is right - its the roughed up GRP mesh that is used as boat landing stages in a few places now as featured in a pic already posted up.

Thanks Steve, who is compiling the questionaire? Speaking from a purely selfish point of view, time is the main issue I would like addressed, can only hope for a well balanced debate on this (coming out in favour of what I'd like naturally hahaha)

Anyhow, the sooner the questionaire's up the sooner those of us who express an interest can fill it on

onwards and upwards!

we're planning on meeting the fella shortly at teddington, the aim is to dissuade him from entertaining the idea of making teddington island, part of the weir ticket, to sort out the questionaire, and to fix some dates for our volunteers to visit penton hook
