an acknowledgement on sky sports is a rare accolade, that is extended to very few, we are very honoured indeed

Just had to download it on itunes! Mushy you're famous Laughing

Got to say, our patrons are really coming thru for us, they're all being brilliant. Duncan Charman wearing our hat in the press and coming to meetings, Keith Arthur's TAC big-up on his blog a while ago and now on TV, Mike Wilson doing a superb presentation and leaving a room hanging off every word, Terry Hearn and Ruth Lockwood turning up to our meetings.

Most of us aren't bothered too much by angling celebrity but when you get Terry Hearn and Ruth coming to two TAC meetings in a row it's quite motivating.

PostSubject: TAC in the Angling Times this week!   Wed Feb 23, 2011 11:38 pm

So far this week, we'd been mentioned twice live on Sky Sport's Tight Lines, had a piece in the Anglers Mail, had an interview we did with the EA Thames Fisheries sent to 7,000 Angling Trust members and now a great piece from Keith Arthur in the Angling Times cheers This week may never be bettered for media coverage....but we will try. We know it attracts new members and that gives us more of a voice (and fish pics in the galleries Smile )

Titled We must look outside the box Keith writes:

If you want a perfect example of how volunteers can work, as far as I understand it anyway, take a peek at the Thames Anglers' Conservancy. This was set up by a bloke calling himself Mushroom who, judging by his name, was fed up with being kept in the dark and fed on horse dung.

The TAC (http://www.rivertac.org) is free to join and relies on volunteers and, because of that, people volunteer! The group has liaised with other groups normally described as "the enemy": boaters, canoe and kayakers, cyclists - in fact everyone who is a damn nuisance when fishing and made some brilliant relationships.

If other groups - including groups of angling clubs - has local issues, as we do here on my local River Thames, then I suggest they start looking outside their familiar box and get together. At least we don't just moan about 'them (a very broad church!) any more, we inform TAC. I saw some sewage floating on the tidal Thames a week or so again and one e-mail saw communications going right to the top of Thames Water. It might not stop it happening (but it also might...) but at least 'they' know we're watching.

All good Steve, all good... but you wait 'til we all go skinny dipping this Sunday on the 'litter pick', that'll get a mention in the press somewhere...

all our members should shove their shoulders back, look everyone square in the eyes and tell'em, we stepped up, and yes we are making a difference

the coverage in the media proves that those that cant or wont, love it if we do

just to reinforce what keith says about other groups
we have been contacted by an angling club up north, who wanna do what we're doing down south, up north
needless to say our club offers our hands to all brothers of the angle

PostSubject: TAC Mentioned on Bob Roberts Blog Site   Wed Mar 02, 2011 12:10 pm

Just reading the blog of Bob Roberts who is a well known contributor to improve your course fishing and other magazines as well as being responsable for the seris of dvd's about Barbel and tactics for barbel etc,to see a glowing reference to a certin Mushroom and his team of happy chappys in the TAC (thats us folks).
Now i dont know about you guys but we all must be doing something right when a angler who is known for fishing the Trent etc and other such great northen rivers are saying that we are all making a difference.

Pats on the backs for all of us and a big pat on the back to A Mushroom (you know who you are)

Andy

(i would post the link to the site but durr, i cant if someone can then perhaps you could let me know how to do it)
