It's been a while... Wouldn't have expected Mogden to go off again first though Sad

22-Apr-2014 14:25 Mogden sewage treatment works
From: Rower Notification
Rower notification from Thames Water: Mogden Sewage Treatment Works (STW)
Within the next hour, Mogden Sewage Treatment Works will be discharging heavily diluted storm water into the River Thames. Storm water is screened, settled in tanks and mixed with fully treated wastewater before it reaches the river. Work has been carried out at Mogden to increase the treatment capacity during and after heavy rain in our catchment. Regrettably, there are still times that this capacity is exceeded, and with nowhere else for the excess storm sewage to go, these discharges to the river are legal and consented.

Heavy rain last night, but it seems only Hammersmith went off; We will know for sure when we get the volume numbers sent over.

13-May-2014 13:53 Hammersmith pumping station
From: Rower Notification Rower notification from Thames Water:Hammersmith Pumping Station (PS)
Following the recent rainfall, Hammersmith PS has in the last hour discharged untreated storm sewage into the River Thames, due to lack of capacity in the existing sewer network. We are working hard to develop the Thames Tideway Tunnel to address the unacceptable volume and frequency of these discharges. The proposed tunnel would capture flows from the 34 most polluting 'combined sewer overflows' (CSOs) discharging to the river, including Hammersmith PS, and transfer the sewage to our works at Beckton in east London for treatment. Hammersmith went off again early yesterday morning.
Patrick there is a tidal issue with Mogden but not Hammersmith, it just depends on whether the rain falls in their "catchment" or not.

Mogden sewage works obviously didn't like what we said about it at the AGM, and went off shortly afterwards in protest.

I'm surprised Mogden didn't go off yesterday, serious downpours and the rain caused flooding in the area.
Capacity upgrade doing it's job well, but weird it went off on the TAC AGM evening.

They dump the sh*t when they've got sh*t to dump, irrespective of the tide.
It takes up to a month to reach the sea, it moves a bit further downstream with the current on each outgoing tide and comes back up not quite as far on the next flood tide.

Updated monthly totals since June 2011

Note these are only the monitored discharges, no CSO's

The winter numbers are very high because of the floods and high ground water levels
