folks, we all know anglers are blamed 'big time', for most of the litter found on the river bank, we also know because we've collected 68 bin bags, that it most definitely aint mostly anglers litter
well hows'bout we get blamed for picking it up, if you pick it up, post it on here, we'll keep a running total, and we'll know where it gathers

so to kick us of, this morning before work, I collected one bin bag of mainly beer cans and empty spirit bottles from teddington lock island, all left by what were most definitely people fishing, I hasten to add not anglers

from march 15th till june 16th 68 bin bags collected from teddington to desborough island
teddington island today 1

spent a couple of hours with mark this morning, filled a bin bag from teddington lock island and one and a half from teddington to the half mile tree, we passed two eastern europeans with our bin bag who were packing up, and on our return journey they had gone and left all of their litter, including one shoe, I can only assume that the parrot was taken home with them, anyways a few more to add to the total

Myself and Jim did a tidy up on the top end of Desborough island at Walton today. Pretty awfull state to be honest and not all anglers.

We filled 8 big bin bags which is pretty staggering and tiring, met some people out fishing and spread the work about the TAC. Lots of interest, lots of encouragement that we are doing the right thing. Was a good day out.

So total now up to 86.

crikey, it must have been tiring, I've got my eyes closed, just a few more details about what we collected,
a number of soiled nappies [obviously not left by anglers, but by families on a picnic and fishing while eating], plenty of discarded line, many empty hemp tins and bait related wrappings, as well as the obligatory BBQ and empty bottles and cans, oh and a blanket,
everything collected was left in a spot that made collection by spellthorn council easy, we have telephoned them, they do love a volunteer at their enviromental services
highlights of the day were meeting ameniable anglers, and a dog walker who said 'he'd join the club just to help pick up the litter', and we discovered a gudgeon hotspot, now thats gotta turn your eyes green

That is one hell of a collection from just a single days work. Hopefully should be able to get out for a few hours sometime this weekend, anywhere specific James you want to target? Not 100% yet, but if not dragged into work, would be nice to get some fresh air.

PostSubject: litter pick at desborough island 26-9-10   Sun Sep 26, 2010 7:02 pm

well done to the TAC members who turned out for the litter pick today.
in attendance were jim, paul, steve, willow, myself and of course mr fisher.
we managed to collect 13 bin bags of rubbish taking us past the milestone of 100 bags.
we now have the grand total of 107 bags filled by TAC members,a very well done to all who have helped us reach this outstanding number and heres to it hopefully inspiring some more members to get involved as it is not only beneficial to our club but a very public and positive action for our sport in many ways.

as good a place to start as any.

nothing like fishing in a mess you've made,to be fair though we left these lads with a bin bag and by the time we returned they had filled the whole thing, well done lads.

the fruits of our labour.

TAC members in attendance on the day.

lets keep on banging the drum...

To everyone who has been down and dirty with the TAC, thank you
