PostSubject: The Great 24 Hour Thames Fish Challenge    Sun Mar 02, 2014 9:23 pm

I had an idea some time back about holding a 24 hour Rod Race on the Thames, inspired by a well known TV program  Laughing

Its not quite the same but in a similar vein, and very relevant given the floods and the unknown effects of our fish stocks.

In the summer of 2014 we will be inviting you to take part in a 24 hours Thames fishing Challenge, the challenge being to catch as many different species of coarse fish as you can within that 24 hour period.

A full 24 hours is completely optional, its taking part that counts, as little or as much as you want  Smile

The event will be held from Saturday to Sunday morning with teams of two or more catching and recording as many species as possible, by any method (within reason).

The challenge is not only the fish but personal as well, how many of us regularly use a float and deliberately fish for Bleak, or Gudgeon, Ruffe etc.. who has never fished for Barbel or tried out for Zander, what about fishing with worms or maggots after dark, how about the tidal, possibilities are endless and a challenge.

Being in teams you can all fish different styles at the same time, different methods, the only restriction in your own imagination.

We will record all fish, all areas (again within reason), lots of photos, stories and will serve a snapshot of the Thames, the species and its health. And of course great fun and very social.

More details will follow during the close season, but in the meantime open to any suggestions to make this work well.

Cheers  cheers

I've no doubt you considered this, but some form of charitable cause will bring some good publicity. For example, teams to collect minimum sponsorship (£20?). Also, ask anglers to guess how many species will get caught at a fiver a go - monies split between a prize pool and charity.

Super idea - if it became an annual event it would provide some good data over the years as well!
