I had thought along similar lines but do you think that the bargains will go anywhere near covering the ticket cost plus travel?

I did not go last year but have gone previous years and have always come away with something,I.e Henry Lloyd clothing, waders.and fishing bits. But I enjoyed a couple of years ago on the Royal Navy destroyer and tall ships. One of the BDAC members served in the RN and told me of the
Spray system where water was sprayed as mist in a nuclear attack.A good day out if the weather is okay.

Having worked for the company that sponsored it the last few years (Tullett Prebon), I think it's a show for the big boats and there's not much there for the small boat owner. As John says you can pick a few bits up but probably not worth going for just that.

If you like yachts and big cruisers you'll enjoy London but Southampton is the show to go to for the small boaters/anglers.
