PostSubject: TAC respond to pollution report by residents in thames ditton to the River Rythe   Mon May 09, 2011 7:39 pm

following a report from residents about contractors pumping heavily silted water, into the tiny river Ryke at thames ditton, we donned the waders and checked it out
the good news, the sand deposited by the water from the contractors had deposited itself in a 100m stretch, 50m further downstream there is a mini water meadow
we only found one dead frog in the 150m we could wade, removed 3 blockages to flow caused by residents garden waste deposited over there fences, and observed sticklebacks and pond skaters in the affected area
now for the surprise
himalyan balsam growing in the margins [we uprooted it], reports of chinese mitten crabs, and now you're sitting down, pics of chub and barbel 4 in long
and best of all the resident who allowed us access is gonna join our club

happy happy days, martin will post some pics, and we're gonna pencil it in for a touch of TAC magic

Sand can clearly be seen in the river from the contractors work.

The majority of the stretch we walked is heavily silted.

Residents garden waste is the main cause of the flow being blocked.

Japanese Knotweed taking root.

A mini water meadow.

We cleared the stretch we walked of himalyan balsam.

a couple of TAC reps have revisited this tiny river again, they spoke to some more residents and identified further obstructions to flow and the invasive species himalyan balsam
future visits are planned to dispense some TAC magic
if you're interested in walking in ankle deep water where tiny barbel have been found, removing the balsam and obstructions to flow, then let us know on here
