met 3 scientists from hull university doing research for the EA on species diversity today. they count the individuals and species along the same stretch of bank every 4 weeks so they can build up a database of the number of fishes incase of drought/pollution events. Nice blokes. this was along the runnymead/wraysbury stretch.

here's a guardian tale for you
was out afloat yesterday and noticed that 2 of the 3 portaloos at ham car park had disappeared, anyways surprise surprise I found one upstream near the TYM lock cut, it had travelled a fair old distance on the tide
I told the lockeeper at teddington who said he'd inform the PLA, so I spent the day upstream and on the way back at canbury gardens, spotted a sand martin frantically trying to escape from the rivers surface and being eyed up as lunch by a coot, the wife scooped the martin into my hat and I held it in my hand, in the sun all the way back to my moorings at twickenham, where it decided to leave us without so much as a tweet or a flyover thankyou
and the PLA had retrieved the 2 bins and restationed them back at ham car park

Seems to have settled down since the start of the season. Keep the reports coming though, good or bad, it all gets sent to the EA.

saw wot I thought were 3 foreign fishing people unloading their car yesterday at teddington
visited where I thought they were fishing early this morning, sadly they had been'n'gone, the remains of 2 fires were present, a heap of their empty beer cans and food wrappers, no signs of fish scales or feathers

maybe my crazy rant a few weeks back encouraged them to disappear early

James i was there yesterday from 1pm to about 6pm,empty cans were already there when i arrived (few rats too). There were three Polish guys fishing the island from about 4pm ,talked to them for about an hour they seemed to be ok .
Perhaps some sort of sign (in different languages) would encourage people to take their rubbish home Idea

There was a few people over night stay/fishing on the Island, dog owners complained to Lock Keeper about it and human poo, their dogs rolling in it, I did have a look around but could not find any, plus the dead swon.

Thanks Keith, no1 guardian Smile

The EA have just said that it maybe a legally consented trap and will report back. Understand that it would be tagged as such.

Cheers

filled a bag of rubbish from beverley brook today, and also pulled out a bike and a car tyre.
trotted the river with maggots for about 500yards.
caught a dozen or so chub and a few decent sized roach Very Happy

walked back upriver and plucked out over fifty carrier bags and numerous bits of plastic.
