PostSubject: Last Capture of the Month, Result   Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:28 am

Thanks again for all the entries up to 14th March, some cracking fish and great to see so many Smile

Our final winner for 2010/11 is Martin Steggall and his 1st Thames Barbel, 14.03

Well done and a worthy winner, what a way to break your duck sir Smile

The report and pics as posted up by Steve Holmes, ...enjoy

'Am posting this for Martin as he's not sure how to post up pics...

Martin's been after his first Thames barbel all season and has gone thru many blanks in his pursuit. So we set out today on the Lower Thames to prebait 3 swims then come back and fish them a few hours later. No bites all day - a day in which he talked about how he really wanted a barbel.

Then when dark fell and all Martin could see was his quiver silhouetted against the sky, his tip wrapped round and he hooked into this beast. Bait was maggot over bait-droppered maggot.

14lb 3ozs of pure muscle for his first Thames barbel A fish that on his behalf is now entered into the TAC February fish of the month competition '

OMG!

Thank you very much gentlemen! I am truly honoured, staggered and chuffed!

I've just turned the computer on for the first time in 2 weeks as I've been away. From what has been said earlier about 'that barbel' I obviously thought getting Fish of the Month to be a possibility but I honestly thought that a late big Thames perch would probably beat it. And although I was 'over the moon about what to me was a huge barbel I though percentage-wise of the record it would get pipped at the post!

I can't wait for the opening of the new river season (and fishing the river when I don't need full thermals and multiple layers of clothing!) and am looking forward to renewing my acquaintance with those lovely Thames fish, and, of course, some more of you guys in our quest for the Holy Grail!

Lastly, although I caught the fish Steve Holmes deserves all the credit for having brought you those wonderful photographs for us all to enjoy. His great photography has recorded a truly awesome moment in my angling career and for that I shall always be very grateful. Thanks again Steve.
